Parents Page Parents, your children really do look to you for guidance in what is right and wrong, acceptable and unacceptable. Be a parent, teach your children that underage and binge drinking (5 or more drinks at one sitting) are unacceptable! Research studies indicate that children are less likely to drink when their parents are involved in their lives and when they and their parents report feeling close to each other (SAMHSA). "What parents may not realize is that children say that parental disapproval of underage drinking is the key reason they have chosen not to drink" (Charles Curie, SAMHSA). You can influence your children's behavior by observing the rules of a moderate drinker or by not drinking (SAMHSA). Moderate drinking is defined as drinking only 1 or 2 drinks per occasion. If you would like to share your opinion or a personal experience with alcohol, we encourage you to submit materials to us at the email addresses below. You need not identify yourself if you would rather not.
